Gabrielle Douglas- 2012 Olympic Star

Gabrielle Douglas, 16, recently became apart of the exclusive league of Olympic athletes that will represent the United States at this year’s games.

The young super gymnast competed and sealed the Olympic deal at the preliminary round finishing in second place with a 61.4000 ending score and coming in first place by the end of the trials.

Gabrielle has sacrificed a great deal to get the training that she needed to prepare for the Olympic games. She left behind her mother and 3 siblings in Virginia [Pom-Poms] to move to Iowa and train 25 hours a week with Liang Chow.

Just as Gabrielle gets ready to take a sigh of relief, the next pressure will soon be under way. The team is headed to the London Games to go for the gold, which hasn’t been won by the U.S. women’s team since the Atlanta 1996 games.

Backyardigans

Janice Burgess is the creator of the The Backyardigans on Nick Jr.  She is celebrated on Pom-Poms and Armor today because my nephew simply can't get enough of this show.  It is easy to understand why he hearts the characters; as his imagination, like most babies is growing at a rapid rate. 

Janice was inspired by her childhood in her hometown in Pennsylvania.  She sees herself in each of the characters, although she admits she relates with Pablo, she wishes she could say Uniqua.  Janice states, "Like him, I've always been wound up a little too tight." 

Pom-Poms- her upbringing. Armor- her broad imagination and her backyard, of course.
